The GEF is named in honor and memory of Bob and Peggy Gilchrist, life-long educators and servants of Christ in Titusville, Florida.
The Gilchrists were faithful members of Park Avenue Baptist Church. Believing that children were a gift from God, Bob and Peggy viewed their teaching as an opportunity to help parents train their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Peggy taught at Park Avenue Baptist School for 17 years. Her warm and witty classroom presence endeared her to students and parents alike. Her passion for Christ provided a generation of PABS students with a firm spiritual and intellectual foundation.
Bob spent most of his 32-year teaching career at Titusville High School, ministering to a generation of public school students through his strong witness of God’s grace. His passion for young people and his personal integrity made him one of our community’s most respected educators.
Tragically, their ministry to the young people of Titusville ended in 1998, when they were killed in a traffic accident, but they have left an enduring legacy in the solid foundation they provided to thousands of students.
"I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I cried when I opened the letter from GEF and saw the generous scholarship awarded my family. This will truly help my children in ways you cannot imagine.
